As the
founding location for the Ocean Sailing Academy, Charleston represents the heart
of all for which the school stands.
- The school's convenient
placement on Charleston Harbor provides easy access to open waters for OSA's
courses.
- Learn-to-sail students enjoy the
spacious sailing area of the harbor while benefiting from experience with
every navigational aid used in U.S. waters.
- The challenging tidal flow of
the area helps develop students' sail planning and close-quarter maneuvering
skills.
- Cruising students enjoy inlet
hopping along the coast as they sail the waters of the Atlantic en route to
some of the most secluded anchorages on earth.
- Hands down, Charleston
represents the most challenging of OSA's school locations and provides the
challenge and adventure that the most serious sailors look for in their
sailing education.
Students
not only benefit from OSA's professional sailing instruction but do so in one of
the most historic and scenic environments in the country. Charleston provides a
relaxing and enjoyable venue for students to participate in courses. In addition
to the best sailing instruction, students step back in time learning about our
country's heritage, wandering cobblestone streets, exploring antique shops,
touring the city on a horse-drawn carriage or enjoying the fantastic cuisine of
some of Charleston's renowned restaurants. When visiting this charming city
you'll see for yourself why the readers of Conde Naste Traveler magazine
rated Charleston third among the top domestic destinations and 11th in the
world.
Charleston
is also the start line for the bi-annual (odd years) Charleston to Bermuda Race,
"C2B," where the Ocean Sailing Academy organizes crews of graduates for
participation in the 777 nm race to the oceanic isle of Bermuda.

The
Chesapeake Bay has long been regarded as the sailing
capital of the United States. Through OSA's exclusive partnership with
Let's Go Cruising, the school provides courses
at two Bay locations: Annapolis, MD and Solomon's Island, MD.
Students sail aboard cruising vessels ranging from 35 to 54 feet.
- The Chesapeake is North
America's largest estuary and plays host to thousands of miles of coastline
with a new secluded cove around every headland, creating the perfect
environment for the sailing adventurer.
- The Chesapeake enables the
beginner to get their feet wet as they learn sailing basics, acquire cruising
skills and advance their education to Bareboat Cruising and Coastal
Navigation.
- Sailing time is crucial to the
learning process and our Annapolis location serves this purpose well.
Bi-annually, (even years) the Ocean Sailing Academy organizes crews of graduates
for participation in the Bermuda Ocean Race sailing from Annapolis to the
oceanic isle of Bermuda.
