US Sailing Certifications

The US Sailing Association is the national governing body for the sport of sailing in the United States.  Organized in 1897, the organization is recognized by Congress under the Amateur Sports Act of 1978 to represent all aspects of sailing.

US Sailing certified instructors are the top professionals in the field, trained with the experience and understanding of the U.S. Sailing system.  Hands down, U.S. Sailing's keelboat training and certification is the best available in the United States.  The strict use of U.S. Sailing certified instructors by the Ocean Sailing Academy guarantees students the best sailing instruction from the most thoroughly trained sailing instructors.

Additional benefits of US Sailing certifications with the Ocean Sailing Academy include:

  • One-year membership to U.S. Sailing.
  • Official logbook of sailing.
  • Charter discounts with most major Charter companies.

International Sailing School Association

The International Sailing School Association is a non-profit organization established in 1968 on the initiative of the Centre Nautique de Glenans and the Polish, Italian and British schools, with the objective of giving international recognition to a growing number of sailing schools. The ISSA includes members from 16 countries spanned across three continents. Ocean Sailing Academy is a supporting member in efforts to help promote the sport of sailing worldwide.

The goals of the ISSA are:

  • Grouping, promoting, favoring and reinforcing on the international level, all institutions teaching sailing.

  • Promoting sailing through teaching, initiation, improvement and competition - in collaboration with other International Water-Sports Associations (ISAF).

ISSA aims to achieve these goals by:

  • Promoting contacts on an international level.

  • Promoting better teaching techniques and instructor competence.

  • Reciprocally recognizing qualifications and licenses delivered by every member association.

  • Exchanging information, experiences and qualifications.

  • Studying the problems related to the creation and organization of sailing schools - as well as the quest for solutions common to every member country.

  • Exchanging teachers and pupils.

  • Organizing seminars, cruises and conferences to promote the exchange of views - especially among instructors.
